These two orcas, or killer whales, are residents of Sea World in San Diego, California. There was a third orca in the tank in which they were held, but the mother orca would not allow it to approach its baby. I was taken by the protective nature of the mother orca towards its baby.

Salton Sea Marsh
The Salton Sea is California's largest lake. It is in the desert 40 miles east of Palm Springs and was a tourist and celebrity resort in the 1950s and 1960s. Today, the lake is considered a dead body of water in that it's evaporating faster than it gains water from limited sources. However, this lake is a stopping ground for migrating birds and some find protected stops in the lake's marshes.
Salton Sea, California Red Sunset 1
The Salton Sea is California's largest lake. In the 1950s and 1960s the lake was a resort area for celebrities and families in the Southern California area. Today, it is evaporating quickly because it doesn't have a viable flow of freshwater to sustain it. While it does sustain an abundance of migratory birds, the lake itself today is over polluted making it unusable by humans for recreational purposes. However, the lake does offer beautiful sunsets and vistas for those visiting it. It has also been discovered to contain some of the world's largest lithium deposits on it's southern end, and these are being mined for use in electronic devices.
